BLADE K2　Cylinder M graze(釉薬) : rhodonite (ロードナイト) Reduction firing in a gas kiln ガス窯　還元焼成 ■ sɪᴢᴇ: W11cm× H８cm Please note that individual sizes and glaze textures may vary slightly as they are handmade by the artist. 陶芸家による作陶の為、個々のサイズや釉薬の質感に多少の違いがございます。予めご了承願います。 The glaze is custom-blended from natural rhodonite ore, and reduction-fired in a gas kiln to maximize its unique characteristics. 釉薬は天然鉱石のロードナイトから調合し、それを最大限に生かせるように、ガス窯で還元焼成で焼き上げました。　 Note: Reduction firing is a firing technique for ceramics where the oxygen supply inside the kiln is restricted, creating a state close to incomplete combustion. Restriction of Oxygen: The firing proceeds in a state where there is a lack of oxygen required for the fuel to burn. This creates an oxygen-deprived environment inside the kiln. Chemical Reaction: When oxygen is scarce, the flame attempts to continue burning by stripping oxygen from the oxides present in the clay and the glaze (the glassy coating covering the ceramic surface). During this process, the chemical structure of the metal oxides changes, resulting in unique colors and textures. For instance, copper oxide can turn red through reduction firing. Reduction firing brings deep colors and rich textures to the pottery and glaze, producing pieces with distinct variations and expressions strongly influenced by the clay. Method: This is primarily done in gas kilns or wood kilns, making the firing process more difficult to manage. By setting the gas pressure high and restricting the exhaust gas flow from the chimney using a damper (a plate that blocks the chimney passage), the influx of oxygen into the kiln is limited, creating the reduction firing state. K2 is a solitary peak in the Karakoram range, situated near the border between Pakistan and China. Derived from the initials of "Karakoram No. 2," it also bears the alias of the "Savage Mountain." Despite being the second-highest peak in the world after the reigning Mount Everest in the Himalayas, its extremely remote location far from human settlements meant that its existence was largely unknown to people until the late 19th century, and it did not even have a name. K2 remains an object of awe and aspiration for all adventurers who dream of reaching its summit.
